Check credentials at the source
Use the California Contractors State License Board to check a contractor's license and learn which classification fits the work. Match the business name and license number to the written proposal.
Check the installer's license with the Arizona Registrar of Contractors, and ask for the ROC number on bids and advertising (Source: ARS 32-1124, azleg.gov).
Compare the whole proposal
Ask for the scope, equipment, payment schedule, permit responsibilities and warranty terms in writing. For solar, ask which usage data and utility rate plan support the estimate. Read the California Solar Consumer Protection Guide before signing.
Read the installer's contract before signing. Arizona law requires it to give a cancel period of not less than three business days and a notice that utility rates and rate structures are subject to change (Source: ARS 44-1763, azleg.gov).
